Erica Brown-Freeman (Mar. 26, 1946-Oct 12, 2024)
Losing a very dear friend and talented colleague of many years, is never easy, my heart goes out to Jim Freeman at the loss of his beloved partner and a remarkable woman.
I met Erica back in 1969, at Antioch College, in Ohio, when, as part of their work-study program, I was auditioning actors from the Theater Dept. to tour with The Nicolo Marionettes.
Erica's enthusiasm and many skills made her an important part of the Nicolo troupe for more than 20 years, as a Puppeteer, Costumer Voice Actor, and Director.
Her marvelous characters still live on today on our sound-tracks at Puppetworks, where she can be heard as anyone as Gretel or Glinda, as Diddlewing the Flying Monkey or the Queen of the Night. She created and performed the role of Honey Bear at Macy's Puppet Theater for 15 Christmases.
We shared many exciting and memorable moments in performance, but even more memorable was hosting Erica and Jim's Wedding in my UWS apartment! An amazing event that gathered Jim's Family, Erica's Family, and some of her Puppetry Family.
She was also an important member of the Ridiculous Theater Co. renamed as Eureka, and continued to act and direct in her own projects in later years.
Miss her? Of course, but never will she be forgotten.
