Check Engine Light on? Don't blame the catalytic converter just yet.
Most modern vehicles have two oxygen sensors, and they do completely different jobs.
🔧 The upstream sensor (before the catalytic converter) helps the ECU adjust the air/fuel mixture for performance, fuel economy, and emissions.
🔧 The downstream sensor (after the catalytic converter) monitors how well the catalytic converter is doing its job.
When either sensor fails, you may notice:
❌ Check Engine Light
❌ Poor fuel economy
❌ Rough idle
❌ Failed emissions inspection
❌ Reduced engine performance
Many people replace parts without understanding what the code is actually telling them. Knowing the difference between Sensor 1 and Sensor 2 can save you hundreds of dollars in unnecessary repairs.
Have you ever had an O2 sensor fail on one of your vehicles?
