This is not about the highly routed “open communication and the ability to discuss anything.” It's about getting along and liking each other. You don’t need to have deep conversations, and your child doesn’t need to feel like he can “talk to you about anything.” I’m talking about enjoying each other's company. The only way you can influence your child is if you enjoy a positive relationship with each other. If you want your child to learn from you, they need to like you and get along with you.
