Butterfly wasn’t bred to be loved, he was bred to make money… 😔

For years these cats were treated as a source of income instead of beloved companions. When the breeder had to give up nearly 80 Scottish Fold & Scottish Straight cats & kittens so that she could move to another country, & Midwood Kitty Cats sprang into action. After their rescue mission was complete, they sent out the call to some NYC rescuers who might be able to take some cats into care. We were able to take 8 of them & now they’re beginning the slow, patient journey toward the lives they’ve always deserved.

When Butterfly first arrived, he was terrified. He went to the right foster who has been patiently allowing him to adapt at his own pace. His safe place became a closet, where he still spends most of his day quietly spying out at the world, but little by little, he’s learning & starting to seek out affection!

He’s a big, sweet, adorable boy who loves gentle pets & he never scratches, bites or swats. At night, he cautiously ventures out for a little social time & even enjoys belly rubs. Every small step is a huge victory for a cat who hasn’t had a human caretaker to love them.

His foster believes that with patience, love & space, Butterfly will blossom into “a big giant warm lump of loyal cat.” ❤️ We can’t wait to watch all the others come out of their shells, too.
