Not all brownstone entry doors are lucky enough to have survived decades of daily use.
Take for example this Italianate townhouse in historic Fort Greene. It’s part of a trio of row houses on Carlton Avenue built in 1873. Over the years, the building was modified inside and out, and at some point the original double doors were replaced by a poorly fitting single door that required plywood infill to close up gaps in the entryways.
As part of a larger renovation, the new owners sought to bring the entryway back to its original splendor by reintroducing the classic double door configuration.
The design of the doors was inspired by the 1940s tax photographs from the NYC Municipal Archives. Made from reclaimed flat leaf yellow pine painted black, the sophisticated set features graceful and elongated glazed upper panes and custom-cut raised profile molding.

The Victorian era was inspired by Queen Victoria of England. It had everything to do with grandeur, large scale, and opulence.
The front and vestibule doors were designed for maximum architectural impact, with the deepest and most complex molding.
Our forte is replicating doors for rowhouses built between 1860s and 1900s, the height of the Victorian era. For example, these vestibule doors were fabricated for a brownstone built between 1860s and 1870s. The original vestibule doors were missing. The prominent bolection molding gives these doors and the door trim character and beauty. The trim molding was replicated from the existing well preserved parlor floor trim.
Period appropriate entry door replacement for historic and landmark properties is our specialty. We work with homeowners, contractors, and design professionals on rehabilitating historic entryways. Call 📞 or email 📧 us to get started on your entry.
