Whilst I am away on my silent retreat, my assistant will be posting a few stories to Facebook for me, and here's one I wrote just a few hours before I went away... ... ... ... ...

I have just said goodbye to Oscar-nominated film director, Bradley J. Ross (not that I knew who he was beforehand!). He came for two exhausting days to film me in meticulous detail for a documentary about near-death experiences. I gave up researching NDEs long, long ago and said I’d never do more programmes on the topic but I’m glad, in the end, that I did this one.

Best of all was that Charlotte Martial joined us and showed me the fantastic results she is getting from patients close to death in a hospital in Liege. At last we have EEG data from patients who later report NDES, as well as many other measures. And she’s incorporated tests of whether people can see a hidden target on a shelf above the hospital bed as well – not that either she or I expect patients to see them but this deserves testing. More important is to understand the state of the brain when these experiences occur and this is what she is doing – something that could never have been done in my day.
