A quick reminder that sustainable sewing comes in different forms.

One of my favorite methods?

Making small projects to use up leftover fabric I already have in my sewing room.

👀 Look at this incredibly adorable bow tie made by a customer. Beautifully sewn and styled.

Using only fabric scraps to make, this sustainable pattern is an easy way to add a print or pop of color to an outfit.

Want an easy sewing tip to make your sewing machine lasts longer?

Change your sewing machine needle!

Why is it important?

It can cause you so much frustration if your thread keeps breaking.
Or discouraging if your fabric is distorted from uneven and skipped stitches.
Or even worse, it start to hurt your sewing machine and shorten it's life.

So, how do you know when to change the sewing needle? Just follow these 3 guidelines.

1️⃣ New project, new needle.
A needle lasts about the length of a sewing project. So this is an easy way to remind yourself. Anytime you start a new project, just grab a new needle.

2️⃣ Every 8 hours of sewing.
This is a rough guideline, and varies with the thickness of your fabric. I don't really count up my hours of sewing, so another way to measure this is it's about the same length of time that you'd use up 3 bobbins worth of thread.

3️⃣ If you hear noises. 😲
If you hear popping or grinding noises, it's time to change that needle. Your sewing machine is begging you.
