Wall works are my greatest excitement and inspiration, as it is a canvas that brings art to every person without any classification-hierarchy.

Just like the layers on the street walls, we live collage lives in the digitalized world and these collages imprison us in our cages. I paint because it gets me out of my cage.

I explore my own layers in my bunny self-portraits and speak out against limitations.

I would like to remind you that the breath is the only reality in the heart series.

The moon is there because it is an eyewitness to every action. Aysen Karakaya

That was a lovely spring in 2018, It had been only four months since I quit my Oral Surgery profession in Turkey and moved to Brooklyn. A design was spring to my mind which will connect me in so many ways to my mediterranean roots. That is how Kunn was born and manufacturing process had begun which then took one year to built everything. Kunn inspiration come from interest about history, form, material and also respect for old handcrafted technics. At the end my goal is to create timeless and gender-neutral concept with modern touch. Still have so many dreams about playing with fabrics, material and our cultural elements and recreate them or unexpected style and while doing this to make collaborations with amazing Turkish craftsman and designers. I started my namesake jewelry line in 2016, in New York, shortly after attending a jewelry making workshop, followed by many other workshops to hone and understand the craft of working with metals and gemstones. The collection is a response to the uniformity in the digital age, and seeks to find perfection in imperfections. Hence, the handmade quality, carrying traces of the hand, is of great importance in my work. Round, soft lines, sculptural shapes, pearls, and a lightly matte finish are defining properties of each piece, inspired by the memory of a hazy afternoon and silver light sprinkles over the Aegean sea by my motherland Turkey. Every piece is hand-carved with a focus on fit, comfort and proportion in my Brooklyn studio, to then be casted in mostly recycled sterling silver (and coming soon in gold) by responsible companies in New York’s diamond district.

There is magic in creating a wearable little sculpture that one can treasure and pass along to generations. What I love the most is to see people beautifully wearing my pieces, and the way they make them a part of their everyday rituals and even, themselves. Alev Kennedy
