Business plans are inherently strategic, and it’s pretty hard to get somewhere if you don’t know where you’re going. “But aren’t business plans antiquated?!”...says the Wantreprenuer. Well, you know who doesn’t find business plans antiquated? Financiers: investors, accelerators, private equity, banks, etc. And you know why? {insert cliché} “Because an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” or “Because you can’t score without goals.” Your business plan doesn’t have to be perfect, or beautiful, but you need to ask yourself the hard questions. Here’s some help

• Keep short and focused
• Spend time on executive summary-important for readers
• Graphs & charts are better than words
• Clearly articulate your selling proposition by asking yourself: “How will I differentiate my products/services?”
• Identify your niche and show understanding of your customers
• Be honest about risk and discuss contingency plans and mitigation strategies
• Look at other business plans...and get advice from advisors

• Context & Business Opportunity: Industry size/competitors/trends, market characteristics/needs/size/trends, product delivery/differentiation/costs
• Operational Plan: provide structure and timeline of marketing, sales, product development, research and development

It’s hard to keep the spotlight off a man of this talent for too long. Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Lovell honed his craft at Princeton (graduating summa cm laude) and Brown (MFA in Acting).
