What’s your next concert gonna be and why? Discuss.
The first concert recap in so very long…. and guest Henry recap (with and b3cca), who they saw at on 7/30/21. Marleah wants a shorts suit and hears jangle punk for the first time. Henry gives Our Wicked Lady a glowing review, and takes note of the hot Noods band members (prompting a discussion on whether it’s possible to be twee pop, if you’re also an attractive bunch). Marleah and Henry agree that yes, it’s been a long, hard pandemic, so support local bands getting back into the groove!
CLAVVS just released their latest album O on 7/29/21, Noods released their debut album Blush on 4/16/21. Check them out at their handles above!

Concerts are pretty much cancelled, but some NYC bands are making due, to make performances happen. King Crash was perhaps the first to play out in the city in lockdown. Marleah sits down with them, to find out more about what it means to forge ahead as a musician, with the current challenging circumstances. We talk about the joy of outdoor public performances, colorful characters met along the way, what the upcoming Open Culture initiative could mean for performers, and much more. If you want an inside look at what goes into being a hard hustling band playing out when venues are closed, this one’s for you.
Hopefully, their interview moves other bands to follow suit in playing out....and for fans, to instill a greater appreciation for all that goes into the work these bands do, when the “venue” is public space.
Also in this episode are mentions of a few other NYC bands forging ahead, including jazz/funk/Haitian rhythms/R&B fusion band Alegba and Friends; give them a follow to find out when to dance with them at Prospect Park Boathouse!

Alternative title: So Where Can I Find A Dance Party?
In the video version of the podcast you see two different outfits, no we didn’t intentionally have a costume change, we had a tech issue, don’t get saucy.
Marleah is here to discuss the EDM scene in NYC (and tips for finding where to go in your own city if you’re not from around here), with Gregory Gelfand and Jenya Taran of Mindgazm, a local NYC DJ act she got to see twice over the past month, who also add live instruments and visuals to their sets, for a full electronic dance experience, and who are just two of the nicest people on the scene. We talk about the duo’s transition from band to genre-fusing EDM act, the expanded sonic palette (how we love this phrase) electronic music lends itself to, the future of melodic dance music, how DJs are leading the charge in the NYC music scene, what the underground looks like, and how “you really can’t stop people from being tribal”. Plus, a How Was It For You? discussion, where Marleah finds out what the Mindgazm set she saw was like for them (Greg is ok with a little unexpected B2B!).
Mindgazm’s EP One Funky Evening is set to release on TRAX Records on 11-27-20!
Lockdown Recap, Concerts...the video version!
It’s been a loooong hiatus, and we’ve struggled for the live music that nourishes us…but it can be found! Marleah is here for a How Was It For You? segment, with David Pattillo of Strange Majik, who she saw at Culture Lab on September 19. In Part 1, while recapping the set, we also hear about background on the band, David's thoughts on our high tech world, how ideas float down from the ether, and that time David played for Kimye.
