To align with the changes that have reshaped the urban waterfront over the past half-century, New York City has identified a need to
develop, adopt, and implement a Waterfront Code to supplement the existing provisions in the NYC Construction Codes. The new Code will include design, construction, and maintenance requirements for building and structure typologies unique to the waterfront, such as piers, docks, and bulkheads. The Waterfront Code would standardize requirements for these structures to help streamline development and improve public safety.

There should be one installed where you sleep and on every level of your home, including basements. You should be checking the batteries of these devices twice a year and testing them regularly.

Test your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button.

You should hear three beeps, letting you know the alarm is working.

Don't hear the beeps? Then it's time to change the batteries, if your model requires them.

If your smoke alarm is 10 years old, it's time to get a new alarm because the sensor becomes less sensitive over time.
