'Tis the season for scammers - here is some helpful information from Apple to protect you, especially if you have an Apple Card, but most applies generally:
Learn how to spot common scams and phishing attempts.
During this holiday season, it’s important to safeguard your information from fraudulent activity. Understanding how scammers target you to obtain your account information and Apple ID can help you to protect your account and personal information.
Be aware of the following to keep your Apple Card safe.
Impersonation phone calls
Fraudsters may unexpectedly contact you claiming they are from Goldman Sachs or Apple looking to do one of the following:
Request your Apple ID and/or password to gain access to your account
Ask you to share your card number or three-digit security code from Wallet for verification purposes
Ask you to download an app to enable screen-sharing and help resolve your situation
Suspicious behavior
Fraudsters may portray a sense of urgency by saying things like “You need to take immediate action on your account” or using aggressive language to catch you off guard and get you to act before you’re ready.
Unfamiliar emails and links
Fraudsters may prompt you to open emails that appear legitimate but come from fraudulent senders. These emails often contain links that redirect you to a website impersonating Apple or Goldman Sachs to steal your personal information, login details, or card number.
See something that looks suspicious?
If you get an unsolicited or suspicious phone call from someone claiming to be from Apple or Goldman Sachs, hang up and call Apple Card Support at 1-877-255-5923 to ensure you’re talking to an Apple Card Specialist.
Report suspicious emails or SMS text messages by emailing them to [email protected].
Here are more ways to protect your account.
Never share your password or card number with anyone. We will never contact you to ask you for this information.
Be vigilant about the emails you receive and never click on links from untrusted sources.
Review your list of devices on your Apple ID account and remove any that you no longer use.
Change your Apple ID password frequently.
Enable Advanced Fraud Protection.
Request a new virtual card number directly in the Wallet app.
Open the Wallet app on your iPhone and tap Apple Card. Tap card number icon, then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. From there, tap Request New Card Number.
