Since it's been a while since there was a post I felt a need to state this.
If you're buying a used computer, take these things into thought during your purchase.
No matter how much the seller says it things great, 4gb of ram is insufficent for windows 10. The operating system can use 3.1 to 6 gigs on standby, doing nothing.
Try to avoid any antiques. For those who don't know, for the Intel systems. The first digit of the 4 number identifier for an I series processor is its generation. A three digit identifier is first generation.
Older processors should be avoided. Core 2 duo, core 2 or older. They lack the ability to run a sufficient amount of ram to run the system and they will run very slow, to the point of freezing and crashing.
Lastly, consider the hdd size. Computers have had a minimum 500gb hdd for the last 3 years, 1tb recently if the drive is an hdd. Ssd is different, but be wary of computers with 160gb, 320gb drives. These drives are very old, and while serviceable still their life span is much shorter and more prone to fail.
Just got another laptop in. Will be posting pictures at some point after it's restored. i5 first gen with about 6gb of memory. Upgradeable to 8, windows 7 professional 64 bit.
Received two Lenovo laptops, repairs have begun. The larger one has a screen issue which is either the ribbon cable or the screen itself. The smaller one is finished. Pictures soon.
Two Functional pc's in two days, huh. Who knew. Though one is slaving a power supply from my main rig because I don't have a psu for it yet. (Waiting until next paycheck to pick that piece up, then comes the joy of major surgery on both machines) but it's working. tower number two is on it's way to completion and I'm a bit surprised at how easy this is getting.
Received two custom PC cases over memorial day weekend. Can you say, project PC's? Details to come.
