While we were open during the storm a man who's been without a home for 25 years asked how he could help the volunteers out. Most of the guests were sleeping in, so I said, "We're good right now, you just rest". He did.

Later he came to say "I keep thinking about it and you're the first person in all these years, maybe out of a thousand people, that has told me to just rest. That feels so good."

In this work we encounter people who are living the hardest days and longest nights of their lives. Some have lived unsheltered for years, with Code Blue being the only time they aren't sleeping on the ground or sitting up in a library or McDonalds.

It's rewarding to know that we are providing much needed rest to those who truly need it.
