🩺 Diabetes and Your Heart and Vascular Health
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of illness and death in people with diabetes, and diabetes itself independently raises the risk of heart disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease.
People with diabetes are at higher risk of developing atherosclerosis, the most common cause of peripheral artery disease (PAD). And people with PAD have a much higher risk of heart attack or stroke.
Here is what makes this especially important for cardiovascular health:
🩸 For people with diabetes, PAD may not cause any symptoms in the early stages, making it even more critical that it be identified and managed early.
🦵 PAD can cause leg pain, slow healing wounds, and in serious cases can lead to amputation
❤️ Managing blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol together is key to protecting both your heart and your arteries
If you have diabetes, make sure your heart and vascular health is part of the conversation with your care team. Early screening and proactive management can make all the difference.

💙 June is National Men's Health Month, and as a cardiovascular practice, this one is close to our hearts.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men in the United States, and yet men are significantly less likely to seek care before a serious event occurs.
A few things every man should know:
❤️ High blood pressure and high cholesterol often have no symptoms
❤️ Regular movement is one of the most powerful tools for protecting your heart
❤️ If heart disease runs in your family, talk to your doctor about your personal risk
This month, we encourage the men in your life, whether that is yourself, a partner, a father, or a friend, to take their heart health seriously. A simple check-up could be life changing.
