Heads up, Railroad Ave. near WorkAbout will be undergoing construction for the next several months!

🚧 Detour alert: NCDOT will establish a detour route on Railroad Avenue as early as Wednesday, June 28, as work on the Railroad Avenue Bridge replacement begins. Construction, which will be performed by Kemp Sigmon Construction, will take approximately 6 months and involve a detour along a short stretch of Railroad Avenue near Commerce Street. Utilities crews are expected to start their mobilization process on Monday, June 26. Please review the NCDOT’s detour map, which directs drivers to Whitmire Street and McLean Road.

Built in 1955, the bridge provides a vital connection along Railroad Avenue for motorists as well as pedestrians and cyclists. Over the course of the last two decades, though, the bridge’s sufficiency rating, which determines weight restrictions and use of the bridge, has declined substantially. This project will improve critical transportation infrastructure and facilitate safe travel through the city. The replacement of this bridge will be overseen by NCDOT.
