In the Northeast the common milkweed is flowering, but the monarch butterflies, which depend on the milkweed for their larvae, are hardly seen this year. With the western Monarch already near extinct, this is extremely worrying. The reason? Probably this year's weather. Insect numbers shift every year. Should that knowledge comfort us? Not really, since weather events like extreme rainfall and drought are becoming the new normal. We can all do our bit in our yards. And as an organization, that is our message. But what we really need, is a huge shift in awareness, and use our power as voters to embrace policies that protect our environment. Keep sharing messages like this with neighbors and friends.

HUGE thanks to everyone who came out yesterday. We have more tree installations and invasive species removal coming up soon, and a few events more educational and celebratory in nature - so stay tuned!
