This is a unique space with both Mercury and Neptune being in retrograde.

Wait - Jess - Should we be freaking out that Mercury is in the microwave again and now Neptune as well?

No - please don't. These are the normal ebbs and flows of our Universe and nothing to be afraid of. Only to be aware of, and worked with.

Neptune is retrograde 6 months out of the year. When it first moves backward across the sky, it's like the ocean & its depths recede to reveal to us what lays beneath on the ocean floor. It's usually stuff we know is there but don't usually see, and have forgotten about. You might find yourself rediscovering a part of yourself that you've forgotten about.

With Mercury retrograde tossed into the mix, expect facts and communications being garbled about what is being revealed to us. Cue the confusion.

So what should we do Jess?

The usual for Mercury ℞ should apply. Bring extra snacks, and water. Plan for extra travel time. Double check all contracts. Be patient and mind your temper.

As for Neptune, hit pause before you react to anything until Mercury is direct on the 23rd. Wait for clarity in order to see what's really going on. It sucks when you have to eat your words and change your mind cause you misunderstood the facts.

A Priceless Testimoney

Back in like March, a local tarot reader at a First Friday Art Walk told me that I was going to be taking an unexpected trip to like have a bag ready because like this trip was going to come out of nowhere. And then a few months later, I had an all-expense trip paid to Portugal, completely unexpected, completely weird and random. I was like, I got to go back to this tarot reader, so I found her again, and this time she told me like within six to seven weeks, you're going to make a decision that doesn't make sense logically. But like, you have to make this choice. Like, you're going to make a choice, and this choice is going to take you like to where you're spiritually, like, emotionally supposed to go next in life. And it's not going to really make any sense. But you're going to have to make a big decision. Anyways, I was thinking about that yesterday because I quit my job, and I was like, gonna go have coffee today with my girlfriend who was with me when I had that tarot reading, and I was like, oh my gosh, it's so weird. Like I have to talk to her about this because like I think this job was that big decision. Basically, my point here is like, f**k ChatGPT. Go find your local tarot reader. Let them help guide you and find the way. Trust your own intuition. Pull your own cards, like screw robots and screw artificial intelligence, and actually let's just like trust the guides that are around us. Let's go like utilize the magic that is literally swirling around our community. So that's my two cents. When one thinks of being spiritual there is almost always a connection to nature. When you google “spirituality” and check images, there are pictures of nature and the universe. When we want to ground ourselves, being barefoot outside works best. We go get lost in nature to escape from the everyday pressures. Our bodies regulate differently (https://e360.yale.edu/features/ecopsychology-how-immersion-in-nature-benefits-your-health #:~:text=These%20studies%20have%20shown%20that,reduce%20anxiety%2C%20and%20improve%20mood.) to positively benefit us when we step into nature. If we don’t have the luxury of being near nature parks, we enjoy the natural or curated beauty of gardens and outside spaces. There is a core, deep connection to the natural world around us. If you think of your happy place, what aspects of nature are indicated there?

So yeah there’s a big connection to being spiritual and nature. So how does climate change impact this?

Well, it’s kind of a big deal really. Our climate is changing with deadly consequences. As I write this Hurricane Helene has wreaked havoc across the South. The death toll is climbing, millions are without power, and the cost to rebuild is skyrocketing. Hurricane Milton is heading balls to the walls towards Florida increasing in strength every minute, one week later. Practically the whole state is on alert and several areas are being evacuated. We are all holding our breath with prayers on our lips in anticipation of the coming destruction.

Every year the storms, tornadoes, droughts, wildfires, temperatures, and weather in general is becoming more and more extreme. This is just in the US alone. There have been deadly consequences around the world. This dramatic change has led to feelings of powerlessness, hopelessness, and frustration as our small, independent actions don’t seem to have any big impact. As our places of serenity, grounding and peace are destroyed or becoming unsafe to inhabit, we feel helpless at the loss of life and devastation.

The grief can be overwhelming.
