Clay County Emergency Management Agency

Here is some great safety information from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security on dealing with power outages. We had a few outages from the weather today, but I'm afraid that this storm season isn't through with us yet.
If your power is out, stay safe and take a few simple precautions:
• Report the outage to your utility provider as soon as possible.
• Stay away from downed power lines and assume all lines are energized.
• Use flashlights instead of candles when you can to reduce fire risk.
• Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to preserve food.
• Use generators outdoors only, far from doors and windows, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
• Check on neighbors, especially older adults or those who may need assistance.
• Continue monitoring local officials and weather updates for recovery information.
