Greetings!
As a fifth-generation resident of Minnehaha County, I live in the same place my Scandinavian great-grandparents settled in 1873 when they founded the Beaver Valley Lutheran Church.
This began a legacy of community and civic service that has been instilled through generations of my family.
Public service isn’t just my roots—it's in my blood.
More recently, as an impacted citizen, I’ve learned how county government—though often overlooked—directly impacts our freedoms, our wallets, and our way of life.
Minnehaha County is growing fast—and strong local leadership has never been more important. I’m ready to meet that challenge with integrity, accountability, and purpose.
Join me. Together, we can build a stronger, safer, and more sustainable county for generations to come.

That Question I Hear Everywhere I Go
Many people I’ve met who’ve heard that I’m running for the Minnehaha County Commission say—with a half-smile and a raised eyebrow—
“So, Rick, you want to be a politician.”
I’ll admit, I get why that word comes with some baggage these days. And sure, it gives me a moment of pause. But I’ve also been inspired—and encouraged to run—by the men and women I’ve seen do public service the right way: with hard work, common sense, and integrity.
What really gives me hope, though, is the growing grassroots movement of everyday folks stepping up—church-going, tax-paying, hard-working husbands and wives, moms and dads—people who just want to serve their friends and neighbors and leave things a little better than they found them. I’m proud to be one of them.
So when someone makes that “politician” remark, I usually respond with a handshake and a smile, “No—I want to be a public servant. And I’d sure appreciate your support. What’s on your mind?”

Well, the campaign is in full swing and I’ve enjoyed meeting so many of the good people of Minnehaha county.
My goal is to do a lot of listening so I’m prepared to serve – and sharing so voters can make an informed decision.
