It's TYPICAL to get frustrated with your parenting partner while trying to parent humans! Feeling frustration and even showing frustration and big emotions towards your child's other parent is OKAY. (KEEP reading)

BUT here is the key - children need to SEE the repair that comes after conflict. This is how they learn AND how they feel secure. They need to be given the opportunity to hear and see HOW you find resolution, problem solve, and repair with each other - whether you are in one home or two.

There ARE some words and behaviors that are not okay to show your children.

- badmouthing or belittling each other
- showing contempt (disgust) for their other parent
- putting your child in the middle
- stonewalling or refusing to speak to their other parent
- making your child "choose" who they love or like more
- showing jealousy of their relationship with their other parent
- criticizing their other parent in front of your child
- placing adult or parenting decisions on your child (to skip over talking with your parent partner - like making your child ask their other parent for money to pay for their hockey uniform)

By developing a MANTRA and learning how to separate your PARENT BRAIN from your PARTNER brain - whether in one home or two - you will INSULATE your child from the complexity of adult relationships. A mantra is a word, phrase, affirmation you create to help remind you to be the best person you can be (especially when things are tough).

YOU CAN DO THIS - What is YOUR mantra?
