We believe that mental health support should be accessible, safe, and affirming for EVERYONE.

Yet, this is not the case for too many BIPOC individuals in Montana, who face real barriers when it comes to mental healthcare.

This includes things like:

• Cultural stigma
• Economic barriers
• Intergenerational trauma
• Reliable access to services
• Medical mistreatment
• Systemic racism
• Distrust in healthcare providers

As a result, these Montanans face significant disparities in mental health outcomes and access to care.

► The su***de rate for Native Americans is higher than all other racial and ethnic groups in the U.S. Though they represent only about 6.5% of the state’s population, Native Americans account for 10% of all su***des in Montana.

►  The su***de rate in Black youth younger than age 13 is approximately two times higher compared to white children of the same age.

► Compared to those of other racial/ethnic backgrounds, Asian Americans are the least likely to receive mental health treatment.

►  18% of Hispanic/Latino individuals lack health insurance, reducing their ability to access care. When do they seek care, poor communication with health care providers is often an issue since there is a shortage of Spanish speaking mental health professionals.

This and every month we will be here fighting the stigma, providing counseling scholarships, and connecting people to trusted resources in order to see change. 💙

We hear a lot about SAD (seasonal affective disorder) in the winter months, but seasonal depression can also impact people in the summer. Summer-pattern SAD is associated with irritability, anxiety, insomnia, appetite loss, and agitation.

Here are some common causes of summer depression:

☀️ High temperatures & humidity discomfort
☀️ Seasonal allergies
☀️ Limited finances for vacations or activities
☀️ Disruptions to regular routines
☀️ Fear of missing out/pressure to be doing things
☀️ Anxiety & shame about your body

If summertime feels hard for you, you’re definitely not alone. 🧡 Things that can help include talk therapy, medication, staying cool indoors (showers/ice packs/AC), using light-blocking shades, limiting or avoiding social media, and going to bed on time.

Do you suffer from summer SAD? What tips do you have that help you cope? 💬
