We are often asked, “What is a mastectomy bra? These sports bras look like normal bras. What is the difference?” The answer is seen in the second photo. Mastectomy bras have pockets to hold breast forms (aka prosthetics and shapers) for those who have had breast cancer surgery. This pocket allows us to bill these bras to insurance companies as “durable medical equipment”. That said, anyone can wear a mastectomy bra, and oftentimes find them much more comfortable and more supportive than underwire bras or other non-mastectomy bras. Curious to learn more?
