Public Land User:

What do Public Lands mean to you?

Public Lands have played a very big role in the last nine years of my life. Growing up in Southwest, WI. I only hunted on Private Ground. Public Lands across the U.S. have allowed me to venture and hunt various species in many western states that I most likely would not have been able to afford to hunt on private land.

How do you plan to celebrate National Public Lands Day?

How do you advocate for the outdoors and public spaces in your community?

Although the community I grew up in does not have any access to public grounds, I do my part in keeping the youth involved in the outdoor space. I enjoy taking kids hunting and helping them fill their tags on my ground.

How can we unify around Public Land access?

Do your part and spread the word positively. Join a conservation group, volunteer with an organization for a habitat project, the options are truly endless.

What do you hope for the future of our Public Lands?

I believe better management is crucial. While hunting in different states, I've seen road hunters taking young game off Public Lands, which can harm wildlife populations and disrupt quotas. Many Public Lands have untapped potential for mature game. For example, in Arizona, unit quotas were recently changed, but I observed a lack of mature bucks.

Over-hunting is a widespread issue, and irresponsible off-roading damages vegetation. Disrespect for designated trails on private lands and littering can lead to land access restrictions. One person's actions can affect everyone.

In the future, I'd hope for better morals and ethics from everyone. Our lands have already changed so much since our grandparents were young. If we don't turn things around now, our next four generations will never be able to enjoy the things we love the most.

How can individuals support local Public Land protection?

There's a lot of great ways to do this and social media makes it impossible to miss. Organizations like Delta Waterfowl, NWTF, RMEF, Mule Deer Foundation, Pheasants Forever, etc. are constantly doing events.
