Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) was an anti-apartheid activist. He spent 27 years in prison for his activism, becoming a global symbol of resistance. He won the Nobel Peace Prize. Mandela played a crucial role in dismantling racist segregation, leading to South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994, when he became the first Black president of South Africa.
