🐾 Bean of the Week: Atomic Kitten
Atomic Kitten’s story is a reminder of how important timely medical intervention, partnership, and specialized foster care can be.
Late 2024, Atomic Kitten was left in the overnight drop at a local municipal shelter. Neurological symptoms were noted at intake, and by the time she received her diagnosis, she had progressed to experiencing frequent seizures—sometimes as often as one every hour.
The shelter veterinarian suspected neurological FIP and reached out to us knowing Front Range Freedom Rescue has experience with complex FIP cases and long-term supportive care.
By the time Atomic Kitten arrived with us, she required immediate hospitalization to stabilize her condition and begin treatment before transitioning into one of our experienced medical foster homes.
At the beginning of her journey, Atomic Kitten had no functional use of her back legs.
Then slowly, things started to change.
First she began playing while laying down.
Then came the wobbly little walks.
A few weeks later, she was zooming around and climbing the cat tree.
Today, Atomic Kitten is officially an FIP survivor.
While she still experiences some lasting neurological effects and will likely require long-term diapering support due to incontinence, she has regained control of most of her body and continues to make incredible progress.
Most importantly, she’s learning that people can be safe.
Her foster mom is currently helping her establish the hygiene routine that keeps her happiest and healthiest, including diaper changes, sanitary grooming, and frequent butt baths.
Atomic Kitten still has a journey ahead of her, but for the first time, that journey includes the possibility of a forever home.
This is exactly why the Tiny Toe Beans Project exists: to provide critical care for the most vulnerable, even when the road to recovery is long.
