This summer, the EWB CU Guatemala Team traveled to the town of Caserio Totolya to revamp their water conduction line. This line brings clean water to the community of about 300 people from a spring 3 kilometers away. The line frequently breaks due to rockfalls and landslides in the area. This summer, we replaced 800 meters of fragile PVC with much stronger HDPE pipe and built three new aerial crossings where the conduction line crosses over large ravines. The community members are incredibly resourceful, hardworking, and resilient and being able to work directly with them to implement and problem solve was the highlight of our time in Guatemala. This project will continue with a second implementation trip in January 2020, focusing on the automation of a pumping system within Caserio Totolya.
