Is adolescence a problem to be solved?

Good perspective in this TED talk.

What to Do When You Get Your College Roommate Assignment - UniversityParent 07/03/2026

Most roommate pairings work out fine. But a few things in early communication are worth paying attention to.

Watch: if your student’s roommate is unresponsive to multiple attempts at contact before move-in, that’s worth noting. It might mean nothing, or it might mean communication will be a challenge in person. Either way, your student should know it’s okay to loop in the Resident Advisor (RA) early if needed.

Act now if: your student sees something on the roommate’s social media that suggests a safety concern — not “different taste in music” but an actual concern about behavior, substances, or values that conflict with your student’s wellbeing. That conversation goes through the housing office, not through you directly.

I've had so many friends ask which college advisor/admissions counselor to use. While there are many extremely talented professionals out there - I know they're also out of reach for many families because the price of entry is so high.

So... we've been working on something.

I've always wanted to have a personality + aptitude + college match tool, but it has been too hard and expensive to build.

Not just to match you to the top rated college according to the Princeton Review or another named list, but really the right school for your son or daughter.

But, we've been tinkering and I think we've figured out how to build a MVP version.

You can check it out here and let us know what you think.

What would make it more useful for families?

When you pick out the shower caddy for the dorm... don't forget this too ⬇️

One of the most overlooked dorm problems is the dripping shower caddy. Ewww! After every shower it comes back to the room and leaves water across shelves, desks, and floors, which invites mildew.

The fix is cheap. Keep a dish drying mat (sometimes called a stone or absorbent countertop mat) as the caddy’s landing pad.

It gives the wet caddy a dedicated, waterproof place to drip dry, protects surfaces from water damage, and keeps the room cleaner from day one. https://universityparent.com/college-bathroom-essentials/
