This law allows people riding bikes to:
🔴 Treat red lights as stop signs
🛑 Treat stop signs as yield signs when it’s safe to do so.

Cyclists: Always look both ways, yield to anyone with the right of way, and wait for oncoming traffic to clear before proceeding.

The Financial Costs of the Pedestrian Death Crisis Are Still Stratospheric — Streetsblog USA The financial burden of pedestrian deaths still adds up to tens of billions of dollars even as fatalities fall — and the organization behind the new finding hopes the staggering price of road violence will motivate people to finally take action.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who testified this afternoon in support of Bill 26072. Our voices made a difference.

This important legislation will increase penalties for drivers who kill or seriously injure vulnerable road users, helping to bring greater accountability and justice to our communities. I’m also incredibly grateful to everyone who showed their support—whether in person or online. Because of you, the bill passed unanimously and has now moved on to the next step in the legislative process.

Bill 26072 strengthens our legal system by expanding criminally negligent homicide as a Class 5 felony to include vehicular homicide, giving district attorneys an additional and more appropriate charging option. It also removes outdated language that limited cases involving handheld device use while driving to a Class 1 misdemeanor when a life is taken, allowing for more serious charges where they are warranted.
