It's a Preemie Thing

Today is the day we come together as a country to remember and honor those who gave their lives to protect and serve.

Today....9 years ago, I became a member of the club you never want to be in. My son Spencer was born the day I hit 29 weeks at 2lbs 5oz. He would later be diagnosed with Rhombencephalosynapsis (RES), yet an even smaller club I joined. But nobody is ready to be a preemie parent, it's hard enough as a first time parent period!

It has changed me, let me meet a whole village I can call mine now that I would have never known. Lead me down a path of struggles, then victories and made me appreciate so much more of the small things. Like when he sat up on his own at 17 months for the first time, when he was 2.5 and took his first steps without a walker, and now at 9 when he ran through a parkour course without falling and then told me he was confident with a little bit of fear mixed in. ;)

We have watched some of our friends flourish, some we have mourned with, and then watch their families grow more. Happy 9th birthday to my son Spencer, it has been a joy to watch him grow, and he's the reason It's a Preemie Thing was started.
