As the 2026 recreational boating season gets underway, the Quincy Police Department Marine Unit would like to remind everyone that the designated No Wake Zones in Quincy waterways are now in effect and will be actively enforced throughout the boating season.

No Wake Zones exist to protect everyone enjoying our harbors, rivers, and shorelines. Excessive boat wake can endanger kayakers, paddleboarders, swimmers, fishermen, and other boaters, damage docks and moored vessels, and contribute to shoreline erosion and environmental impacts. Operating at headway speed (6 MPH or less) helps ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all who use our waters.

In Quincy:
⚓️ No motor vessel shall operate faster than minimum headway speed (or 6 mph, whichever is slower) within 150 feet of the shoreline or within any mooring area.
⚓️ Maintain at least 150 feet from swimmers and moored/anchored boats.
Massachusetts law requires operators to comply with designated No Wake and Headway Speed zones. Violations are enforceable under M.G.L. Chapter 90B and related regulations, and may result in fines.

We encourage all boaters to familiarize themselves with these areas and the new Boater Safety Certificate requirement before heading out. Our Marine Unit officers will be conducting routine patrols with a focus on education, safety, and enforcement when necessary.
