Boston Partners in Education

Year after year, volunteers make the decision to return, not because they have to, but because they believe in the impact they can make. In a world where time is one of our most valuable resources, choosing to spend your free time mentoring and uplifting Boston Public Schools students is a testament to the kind of community we are building together.
Mentorship isn't just about showing up for one day—it's about showing young people what consistency, encouragement, and belief in their potential look like. Every conversation, every event, every hour volunteered becomes part of a student's story.
To those who continue to come back year after year: thank you for choosing us. Thank you for investing in the next generation. Your commitment reminds us that lasting change is created by ordinary people making extraordinary choices with their time.

During Cathy’s time volunteering with Boston Partners in Education she not only has gotten to experience the community with her match but grown in several other ways.
Throughout the years Cathy has been able to explore several different aspects, skills, and experiences in her match. She is allowed and encouraged to be creative and to work in different areas with the children in her classroom to grow their skills and her own.
For Cathy volunteering has not been left with dull moments in her match but instead with creative expression, leadership, and community.
Thank you to our volunteers and teachers who bring this energy to the classroom and beyond.

Teachers at the Mildred have seen great success in their students from the extra support BPIE volunteers have provided. An 8th grade civic teacher says, “[The mentor] knows a lot and can really provide access for our Haitian-speaking MLL students in a way that I was not able to do before. She knows the content very well and is skilled in what she does.” While the teachers appreciate their volunteers, our volunteers LOVE working with both the students and teachers, “I'm so glad I participated in this program. Each week, I could see the students opening up to me and trusting me more. One of my favorite moments was when I sat down to read a book to the class, and one student said: ‘[Volunteer], thank you for helping us!’ This acknowledgement from a very young student felt rewarding and made me feel like the students valued having me in their classroom.” recalls a first year volunteer. As for our loyal returning volunteers, one praises his host teacher, “I am so grateful to be able to return to [teacher’s] class year after year. That's the advantage of getting to work with a veteran teacher. She really knows how to use mentors effectively.” The general sentiment? Once you start mentoring at the Mildred, you’ll want to come back year after year.
