We're thrilled to announce that Robert Kahn joins the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Conductor for next season! 🎶
Robert Kahn Announced as CSO Assistant Conductor for 2026/27 | Chicago Symphony Orchestra The Solti Foundation U.S. and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association have partnered to create a new opportunity for an early career American conductor.
On January 24th, Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol will perform at Jordan Hall, showcasing a program that spans from diverse modal traditions to modern jazz. Featuring the DÜNYA ensemble and the St. John Damascus Byzantine Choir, the recital bridges different musical worlds through innovation and improvisation. ✨
The program’s centerpiece is the world premiere of Sanlıkol’s “Microtonal Bop.” This work marks a definitive evolution in jazz orchestration, successfully integrating a complex microtonal framework into the high-energy, swinging context of a classic big band. To realize this vision, the woodwind and brass sections, most notably the trombones employ alternate fingerings and physical modifications via extended tubes. While the trombone slide offers inherent flexibility, executing these precise microtonal nuances requires a specialized technical mastery that pushes the boundaries of traditional jazz performance. 🎺🎷
The piece unfolds as an energetic post-bop journey where ancient modal heritage meets the driving groove of modern swing. Alongside the premiere, the program features evocative works like “A Capoeira Turca” and “The Turkish 2nd Line,” weaving a seamless dialogue between tradition and innovation. 🎶

NEW SIGNING 🎉 We’re thrilled to welcome pianist Markus Becker to LocksBridge Artist Management for worldwide general management! 🎹🌍
Renowned for his exceptional versatility, Markus Becker moves seamlessly between classical repertoire, jazz improvisation, and genre-defying performances. His masterful jazz improvisations reveal a world that is free, elegant, and effortlessly brilliant, while his jazz-infused "freestyle" playing highlights both technical finesse and a remarkable sense of form.
Whether on stage or in the studio, Becker sets new standards in the concertos of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Gershwin, as well as in his acclaimed rediscoveries of Pfitzner, Reger, Hindemith, Draeseke, Widor, and Franz Schmidt. His complete Max Reger recording—described as "one of the rare, truly great achievements in German pianism of the last half-century" (Fono Forum)—remains a landmark, and his recent Haydn interpretations have received enthusiastic praise from the international press.
A frequent guest at leading festivals such as Klavierfest Ruhr, Schleswig-Holstein, and Beethovenfest Bonn, Becker performs with major orchestras including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, and the NDR, WDR, and SWR Symphony Orchestras. He also collaborates with renowned artists such as Albrecht Mayer, Igor Levit, and Alban Gerhardt.
