A new year is a fresh sheet of paper. A blank slate. An empty canvas on which to dream up twelve new months of living. Your imagination is your paint box. What are you planning to create?

For me, this year kicked off with some old traditions and new challenges, including three highlights: a bracing nature walk around Walden Pond in Concord, MA; our family's annual icy plunge, this time at C**t State Park in Bristol, RI; and a three-day cleanse inspired by my sister and the National Geographic miniseries “Limitless”.

Hygge isn’t strictly a winter practice! The commitment to comfort can apply to any season, taking pleasure in the present moment and valuing the cozy things in life.

This fall, try these hygge-centric activities:
