From our founder Joe Landis:

Happy World Refugee Day! Today, my start-up ReHome is launching our seed fundraising campaign to boost housing for refugees who are resettled to the US. After refugees are vetted overseas and their travel to the US is booked by the federal Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), ReHome wants to make sure it’s easy for landlords to rent their units to these new neighbors. We have an ambitious model for impact, fueled by a strong business case to become the home base for services to a growing Refugee-Welcoming Rental Market across the US.

Before we launched, 14 of our supporters pledged a total of $5,500 in donations,* ranging from $50 to $2,000 each. Our goal is to get as close to our $250,000 target as possible within 24-48 hours so that we can trigger more generosity from the crowd to seal the deal and make ReHome’s vision happen. Our first pledges will be logged in the campaign as matching donations for others who are inspired to give.

Supporters of ReHome will be added to a group that receives quarterly updates on the number of months’ worth of rent we have saved for refugee families, and how well we are doing at bringing in landlord customers by improving their rental market experience.

*Contributions to ReHome’s crowdfunding campaign are cause-based, but they are not tax deductible since ReHome is an LLC. We want to grow into being an employee-owned company, and this type of innovative business model doesn’t yet exist in the non-profit sector. Our business model serves our impact goals, and our growth model is to use any profits to accelerate research and development of new services for a stronger RWRM.

Have you ever heard of the Refugee-Welcoming Rental Market?

It’s a better rental market for everyone: landlords can easily grow their rental business and refugees can build restored lives. Podcast link in comments to learn more!

Many refugees who are flown to the US for resettlement arrive homeless. That’s where we come in at the ReHome Podcast.

You’ll hear from the people most directly involved all about what it means for landlords to rent to refugees, what it means for refugees to find housing success in the US, and how an alternative rental market - the Refugee-Welcoming Rental Market (RWRM) - is coming together to improve things for both refugees and their landlords.
