Bad Academy

I'm equal parts relieved, excited, and nervous to (finally) share Alien with you. I'm sending this message to you folks first because you mean so much to me. Changing the focus in my career / life from classical music to songwriting has been incredibly difficult, stressful, and rewarding.

I've had to change old thought patterns & embrace new ones, step out of my comfort zone (almost constantly), and ask for (a lot) of help. In the process, I've learned more and accepted more about myself than ever before, and it feels good for the pieces to start fitting together.

This was the inspiration for Alien, that I've felt weird for as long as I can remember; mystified that everyone else seemed to 'get it' when it came to life. For a long time I thought it was because I was 'broken' somehow. In times like that I often think of a quote I saw years ago that I'll paraphrase and butcher below:

You can't judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree.

Yeah, Alien is sad, but it's more than that, I think I also created it to find other people like me: people who've felt like they didn't really belong anywhere, who found it hard to make friends, who, as the song says, are "...looking for [their] home."
