Meet Anna! Our newest is now live in our bio! has taken part in many of our programs, including songwriting, musicianship, and vocal lessons. Most recently, she showcased her skills by writing her own original for !

Anna shares, “I’ve been a musical person all my life, so when I decided to take voice lessons, I wanted to learn more about music. Arabella is an excellent teacher, combining technique with theory, so you understand the science behind how music can be created. She also helps guide you in style and performance. The studio is wonderful and supportive and I highly recommended any one of the very knowledgeable instructors.”

I know what you’re thinking: “Scales? Ugh.”

Many people quit piano lessons or skip music theory because scales feel like musical boot camp. But here’s the secret: scales aren’t meant to be torture.

When you use scales to play actual songs — melodies, hooks, riffs — you realize you’ve been playing with scales all along without even noticing. Take Taylor Swift’s Love Story, for example: that opening line moves step by step through the scale. Nothing fancy — just the diatonic scale doing its magic.

In this video, you’ll learn how to three scales every musician should start with: Major, Minor, and Pentatonic — just different flavors of the same notes that open up endless possibilities for exercises and songs.
