Join Olivia on June 28 | 1:00–5:00 PM for an afternoon of natural dyeing using foraged black walnuts and onion skins! Participants will learn how to prepare a dye bath, mordant fiber, and dye yarn using plant-based materials.
Together, we will create rich gold, rust, and brown tones from the natural pigments found in black walnuts and onion skins. We will prepare two separate dye baths and explore color variation through submersion dyeing techniques.
Yarn will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own natural-fiber yarn to experiment with.
Olivia Hochstadt is a knitwear designer making garments from yarn that she spins and naturally dyes with plants she forages locally. In 2021, she apprenticed master fiber artists in Shetland, the Faroe Islands, and Chile as the first-ever Colby Global Fellowship. https://www.instagram.com/k.o.knits/

For May's monthly artwork highlight from around the studio, we have this lovely weaving by Sam Fields that was a part of the Handle With Care show that was up in our gallery last month!
Some highlights form our weaving artists!
