“Many people who experience a concussion don’t actually feel any of the symptoms until hours later,” says Daniel Daneshvar, MD, PhD, chief of Brain Injury Rehabilitation.
Dr. Daneshvar explains the signs of delayed concussion symptoms, when to seek medical care, and why early recognition can make a difference in recovery and long-term brain health.

Hannah Strom is about to celebrate her first anniversary as a Rehabilitation Aide at Spaulding, the same place where she recovered after a devastating car crash.
In 2020, Hannah and her College of the Holy Cross rowing team were on a training trip to Florida when their van collided with a truck. She sustained critical injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, and spent months working to regain her strength and independence.
Now, Hannah is helping patients navigate their own recovery journeys with perspective and hope. Joseph Giacino, PhD, director of Neuropsychology, explains that the connectivity between the people helping and the person receiving help is key to recovery.
“Even when I'm having a bad day I'm just, like, proud that I get to be here and share my story and help other people,” Hannah says.
