Nothing blue about the blue book ballot. I’m voting for apple ballot school board candidates.

GOP-aligned groups are handing out the “Blue Book Ballot” at early voting centers that endorses candidates for the Montgomery County Board of Education. Voters have sometimes mistaken it for (or have been led to believe it is) a Democratic Party sample ballot.

Folks who know me, know I’m a union guy. I work for a union and my colleagues who do the same job are in a union. Which means my employer, aka the Bosses, work for the union. You’d think union busting garbage would be non existent. We’ll you’d be thinking wrong. Our leaders Becky PringleKim Anglin AndersonKaren Whitehave enabled Jim Testerman to engage in union busting disrespectful tactics at the bargaining table. And we’ve had it. The field organizers at NEA value the work we do to support our nation’s educators, but the tone at the table suggests NEA doesn’t value us.

We have been working without a contract since June 1, 2023.

Management has been intractable, dismissive, and paternalistic. They continue to breach their stated core value of respecting the “worth, dignity, and equality of every individual in our diverse society,” as described in NEA’s “Our Mission, Vision, and Values”.

Jim Testerman is the senior-most manager on management’s bargaining team. Our prolonged negotiations with this team under Testerman’s leadership indicate that management is unwilling to bargain productively and in good faith.

As a membership, we have entered a vote of no confidence in Jim Testerman’s leadership and have called for his removal from the table in order to move forward.

Every worker deserves a fair contract, including a union’s organizers.

Superlatergram from Election Day. So excited to work to elect Laurie-Anne Sayles for Council At-Large, especially spending the afternoon with Teddy. He was our secret weapon to get lit in hands of voters who wouldn’t take it from others. Although votes not final for a few weeks, I am humbled to receive 26,000 votes for my seat on Montgomery County Democratic Party along with nearly all of my amazing slate mates at MCDCC At-Large Progressive Slate. I look forward to serving the party in this capacity.
