Congratulations to Faye A. Chadwell, an alumna of the Department of English, for being recognized as an exceptional alumna at the 2026 Alumni Awards Gala on Saturday, July 11th. 🎉

Each year, the Appalachian State Alumni Association honors individuals whose outstanding professional, philanthropic, and volunteer achievements have made a lasting impact on society and Appalachian State University.💛🖤

Chadwell earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Appalachian State University in 1984 and her master’s degree in English in 1987. Prior to joining Penn State, she served as the Donald and Delpha Campbell University librarian at Oregon State University. Currently, Chadwell serves as the Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications at Penn State University. 👏

🐻 Freddie Visits ITALY!!! ✈️

Freddie had the adventure of a lifetime after stowing away in Dean Sue Polanka’s bag! Once he was discovered hiding behind her hiking shoes, there was no sending him home—he was officially along for the ride.

🏔️ First stop: the breathtaking Dolomites, where Freddie hit the trails and even visited Cortina, host site of the 2026 Winter Olympics.

🚤 Next, Freddie soaked up the beauty of Lake Como and Lake Garda, enjoying scenic boat rides and lakeside views. What bear doesn’t love a day on the water?

🍷 Then it was off to Verona, where Freddie explored the city’s ancient Roman arena, wandered charming streets, and joined in on wine tours and tastings. By then, it was official, Freddie had fallen head over paws for Italy. ❤️🐾

🚣 His Italian adventure ended in magical Venice, where he cruised the canals on a gondola and water taxi, quickly becoming the most popular passenger on board. To toast an unforgettable trip, Freddie wrapped things up with a signature Aperol Spritz (don’t worry—it was just for the photo 😉).

🌍 Freddie has officially caught the travel bug!
