THE CABIN

Her words went far beyond the stage.
Last week, we had the privilege of welcoming Robin Wall Kimmerer to the Morrison Center, but the experience began long before the evening's event.
We took a meaningful detour to Peaceful Belly Farm, where we gathered with members of the Fort Hall Youth Council, who made the journey to Boise to hear Robin speak.
Together, we shared a meal, participated in a natural dye workshop, and connected through conversations about land and community.
When Robin took the stage, her words resonated deeply with everyone in attendance. As a botanist, author, and Indigenous knowledge keeper, she invited us to reconsider what sustainability truly means—not as a practice of managing resources, but as a relationship rooted in reciprocity, gratitude, and care for all living beings.
Thank you to Peaceful Belly Farm, for their generosity and partnership in bringing Robin and members of the Fort Hall Youth Council together.

Day 2 of Idaho Gives đź’«
Every story deserves to be heard.
Your support helps us bring writing programs to students who need them most, nurture young and emerging voices across Idaho, and protect the freedom to read and create without limits.
Without supporters like you, Addie might never have discovered her voice as a published 8th grader—featured in our latest edition of CAMBIA, a collection of writing from students across our Writers in the Schools program.
"Why must we leave?"
Why does the ocean cry silently when the moon leaves?
Why does the grass leave when the bugs die?
Where does the pine run when the leaves shake?
Why does it hurt when the earth spins?
Where do snakes breathe when the ground runs out?
Where do lost things live when they are forgotten?
Why does the moon hide when the sun is near?
Why do poppies bleed even when no one’s touched them?
Will it hurt to be forgotten?
When does death grow tired of itself?
Where does the earth heal?
Why must we leave?

Earth Day feels like the perfect moment to return to the stories that help us understand and care for our world.
In this collection, you’ll see familiar voices shaping how we think about climate, nature, and the future: from children’s books that teach stewardship early, to powerful fiction and nonfiction that ask us to imagine something better.
You’ll also recognize the work of Robin Wall Kimmerer, who will be in Boise on May 28 at The Morrison Center for her rescheduled Readings & Conversations event. Tickets are still on sale in the link in our bio.
“The land is the real teacher. All we need as students is mindfulness.” - Robin Wall Kimmerer
