Estimated blood loss skills drill!! 🩸📋

We regularly do skills assessments at the birth center to make sure we feel comfortable and confident in any emergency - or with routine occurrences, like blood loss!

It is normal to lose some blood at birth, but losing more than 1,000mL is considered a postpartum hemorrhage and needs to be adequately managed. It can be tough to eyeball the amount of blood loss in the moment if you are not familiar with what it looks like outside of the energized moments following birth.

In this skill drill we refine our skills by being able to take time to observe for long periods, pick up chux to feel the weight, to see how saturated the pad is, understanding the color change of the tub water or toilet water depending on amount, and weighing the chux on the scale.

We do many skills drills throughout the year to best serve our clients. We pride ourselves on being confident, prepared, and safe providers.
