Most of us were taught to see metabolic syndrome as a “fat, sugar, and arteries” problem.
But there’s a third player we almost never talk about: the lymphatic system.
In obesity, lymph vessels running through fat don’t just drain a little slower—they stretch, twist, and leak.
That varicose‑like remodeling traps fluid, inflammatory cells, and lipids in adipose tissue and around organs, feeding more insulin resistance, ectopic fat, and cardiovascular risk.
My next article dives into:
-How growing fat depots mechanically and chemically injure lymphatics
-The VEGF‑C / VEGF‑D / VEGFR‑3 signaling axis in plain language:
-Why weight loss and inflammation control can partially restore lymphatic pumping and perilymphatic inflammation.
-What this means for lymphedema, lipedema, and “metabolic” patients who never quite fit the textbook.
If you work with or have obesity, lymphedema, lipedema, or “mystery swelling,” you’ll want to see this one.
Shoot me a DM or email [email protected] to get a pdf of the article.
