𝗧𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲, 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴:
⚡️ Remove and replace FPE exterior 125 amp main
disconnect panel with new 125 amp main
disconnect
⚡️ Install new grounding system with ground rods,
water bond, and intersystem bridge

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁:
⚡️ Replace conduit and wire for sprinkler timer
⚡️ Add a 2 pole 20 amp breaker in panel for power
⚡️ Install surge protection on condenser unit

When replacing the panel, we noticed there was arcing inside of the meter can as you can see by burn marks where the breaker did NOT trip. Their condenser unit also continually had surges and ended up frying the board. Installation of a surge protector will remedy that issue.

We coordinated the disconnect and reconnect of power with FPL, inspection was scheduled same day with the County and passed, and this customer was safely back up and running same day. They will no longer face the threat of their insurance dropping them for having an outdated panel, at least, not for another several decades!

⚠️ 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘀 - Generators can output more power than a standard household circuit is designed to handle, potentially overloading and damaging wiring, appliances, or even causing a fire.
⚠️ 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵/𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗞𝗶𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 - To safely connect a generator to your house, a transfer switch or interlock kit is necessary. This device isolates the generator power from the main power lines, preventing backfeed.

This customer contacted me because their exterior panel was tripping a lot which was shutting off their AC. I went to inspect it and found the following issues:

⚠️ Severe arcing - Arcing in an electrical panel is a dangerous, unintended discharge where electricity jumps across a gap between two conductors, such as loose wires or faulty breakers. The heat produced can EXCEED 10,000°F (hotter than the surface of the sun!) and melt metal, as seen in these pictures
⚠️ Loose wire connections
⚠️ Obsolete panel manufacturer making replacing parts impossible
⚠️ Mismatched breakers

To avoid further damage and an actual house fire starting, we performed an emergency panel replacement.

It was a long day of back to back panel changes, but it's jobs like these that mean the most. Keeping my customer's homes and businesses safe from electrical hazards and fires!

Ellen gave us a call on behalf of her elderly neighbor who lost half of the power in his home at 5pm on a Monday. His AC wasn't running, and it was a brutal 88° that day 🥵

After speaking with Ellen and going through the scenario, I knew exactly what the problem was: 𝗙𝗣𝗟 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝗴. This means that one of the two main 120-volt "hot" lines supplying electricity to a home from the transformer is severed.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱?
⚡️ Partial Power Loss: Approximately 50% of the house loses power, while the other 50% still works.
⚡️ Affected Items: 240-volt appliances (AC units, electric dryers, ovens) will not work, or they may operate sporadically.
⚡️ Lights/Outlets: Half the lights and outlets in the house may be completely out, while the other half work normally.
⚡️ No Tripped Breakers: The main breakers in the panel often remain untripped because the issue is on the utility side, not caused by an overload inside.

I advised Ellen to have her neighbor submit an emergency service ticket with FPL so they could come out to make the necessary repairs. No unnecessary service call or after hour emergency invoicing, just quick, honest, efficient solutions!
