Our Zeppole di San Giuseppe for today.

•Origins:
Traditionally, it is believed that Sicilians prayed to St. Joseph to end a severe famine in the Middle Ages. When the rains came, they created a massive feast in his honor, a tradition of charity that continues today

•Traditional foods:
-Pasta con le Sarde: The signature dish, this features pasta (often bucatini or spaghetti) with sardines, fennel, pine nuts, and raisins. Critically, it is topped with toasted breadcrumbs, which symbolize the sawdust from St. Joseph’s carpentry workshop.
-Zeppole di San Giuseppe: The most popular St. Joseph’s Day pastry. These are fried (or baked) dough fritters filled with custard or ricotta cream, topped with a cherry and powdered sugar
