Codex Sinaiticus, written in the 4th century AD, is the oldest surviving manuscript to contain the complete New Testament. Handwritten on parchment over 1,600 years ago, it preserves the Gospels, the letters of St. Paul, and the rest of the New Testament in a single book.

But the manuscript record reaches back even further. P52, a fragment of the Gospel of St. John, dates to the early 2nd century AD, within a few generations of the original. We do not have to imagine what the early Christians read. We can see it.

The Word handed down to us was not invented in the Middle Ages or rewritten over centuries. It was copied, guarded, and passed faithfully from one generation to the next, exactly as the Church has always claimed.
