Coopers made some great progress on the obstacle course!! He breezes through it all now, but he was pretty unsure of it the first time he went around it. This shows the importance of having your dog experience new things, often times they’re totally fine with it once they realize it’s nothing to be scared of. After we completed the course I made sure that Cooper had some fun so he would want to do the course again in the future. #

There’s a myth in the dog training world:

Allowing dogs to interact, play, and chase each other leads to reactivity.

Stay away from day cares and dog parks trainers shout.

But they miss the bigger picture in their half truth.

Can too much play lead to reactivity and over arousal where the dog doesn’t listen? Sure!

But the equal opposite of true as well. Limiting and withholding dog to dog interaction leads to as many if not more problems dog the road.

What dogs truly need to learn - 1st principles thinking - COMPLIANCE LEADS TO FREEDOM & FUN.

It seems simple, but it’s rarely discussed. That’s why we focus on granting dogs responsible freedom from day 1, and pairing it to compliance. Dogs get it. It’s clear. And it’s the greatest reward we can offer.
