“MOLD!” That's a pretty scary word for a homeowner, right?

But is all mold bad?

Not necessarily, mold is an essential part of the earth's natural organic ecosystem. In retrospect mold is what breaks down dead or dying organic material such as dead leaves, trees and even the ground beneath our feet. If the earth had no mold to breakdown material it would be covered in biomass. In addition to keeping our planet clean and green, Mold happens to be utilized and engineered to make some of the best tasting meats and cheeses, and even antibiotics such as penicillin.

With all these positive aspects of mold you would think this stuff is great. Unfortunately mold in your home can spell disaster. Not only because a majority of common household building material is made of nonliving organic material, which is molds primary food source.
