John Lawlor - Photography Is Fun Again

Day 90 PIFA* 90/90 Project – To paraphrase the Doors: "This is the end my friends"
Today marks the end of my self-assigned PIFA 90 posts in 90 days celebrating my discovery that “Photography Is Fun Again.”
Today also marks the beginning of my new title/hashtag: “ ”.
Today’s photo was originally “enhanced” with an on-camera filter at the time of shooting in 1969. The image posted today is my favorite from over 25 years of shooting.
The multi-panel image enhancement represents the first step in positioning for the opening of my art sales gallery. (if you are interested in being on the announcement list, please send me an email to [email protected] subject “gallery info”.
This 90/90 project has been very satisfying on many levels that extended well beyond my desire to improve my Photoshop skills. In the process, I realized that I was also communicating images and stories about my business life that happened before our two children were old enough to comprehend what dad did for a living (they were 4 years and 3 months old when I stopped accepting still assignments).
The process of digging into my archives also gave me deep feelings of gratitude that I fear were sorely lacking during my advertising photography years. I am grateful for the many ad folks that trusted me with their projects and grateful to the clients that paid my fees and provided me with the production funds that allowed me to do things like rent things like yachts, helicopters, mansions, ranches, and other great locations. On the human level, I was supported by a couple of hundred photographer agents, producers, locations managers, location scouts, production managers, assistants, assistant-assistants, stylists, makeup and hair stylists, drivers, riggers, models, cowboys, wranglers, TV commercial film crews, pilots, property owners, art directors, creative directors, copywriters, clients, and account executives…to name a few. Thank you all.
Cheers -

Day 87 PIFA* 90/90 Project –Zebra #1
I shot this photo “in the wild” of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
The enhancements to this photo are part of a series of “sketch-like” experiments that I have been conducting.
I really like this enhanced image. What do you think?

Day 86 PIFA* 90/90 Project – Merrill Lynch bull in downtown Houston, photographer shooting from ground
This is another photo from the Merrill Lynch ads that ran in the first 1987 issue of Fortune magazine.
Yesterday’s image was taken several days before my crew arrived and the photography began. On that day lying down on the ground under the bull was ‘not advised’ by the bull’s owner.
The story was very different after working with the bull and wranglers for 5 days when this photo was taken. Granted precautions were taken to extract me if a problem developed! Happily, the shoot went very smoothly.
The enhancements to this photo are part of a series of “sketch-like” experiments that I have been conducting.
What do you think?
